Why isn't karthus played more?

I've been playing Karthus a bit mid lane and I'm curious as to why he isn't played more. I went up against a fizz today and had no trouble the entire game. He couldn't close gaps on me at all. The entire time he tried, I just spammed Q on him. When he tried to retreat I put up my wall and finished him off at well over half health. If Karthus does die, people always forget about his passive and die with him. I've had similar success against a lot of meta picks.
