A deal too good to be true?
Post Body

Hey everyone! I'm almost ready to finally join the leaf community. I've done all my research on range, battery health and degradation, charging situation, the whole nine yards. Even test driven a few first gens. I've been saving for a healthy down payment of $4K and am now ready to seriously consider what's out there. I've had my eye on a 2018 Leaf S, and today went to go see it and test drive it. It's a one owner, 12 bar jet black beauty. Everything checks out. I've even requested them take it to the local Nissan service center to do a detailed battery check and it came back fine. Granted I would need an OBD2 reader and leafspy to verify, but everything else checks out fine. It's currently priced at $16.8K, which is well below base model KBB estimates. Now, personally, I think this is a good deal. But is this price still the "Hank Hill special" sucker price (sticker price)? Should I ask for lower? It's been sitting in a rural town dealership since February, so maybe that's why it's so low. But what do you all think?

So I took your advice and looked it up on CarGurus. The absolute cheapest 2018 leaf S is $16,389. Mine is only $411 more expensive. Right now this is the second cheapest leaf in the whole freakin' country according to CarGurus! Holy heck!!

As far as the range, generally speaking a first gen would suit me but there will be occasions where I'll travel about 100 miles on the highway to neighboring cities. Is that possible on a first gen? Maybe a 2016/17 SV or SL if you're careful, but I get less battery wear and a longer range on the 2018. Plus I could use the credit history if that says anything! Haha.

But seriously, thank you for the advice!

Oh yeah! I've already got plugshare, plotted routes, even have my own EVGO card. I check plugshare wherever I go preparing for this great day! Got it covered :)

Holy CRAP I didn't check if it had a CHADEMO port. I just assumed 2018 models came standard with it... Is there any way to check with the vin?

Edit: I checked on a vin decoder site, it does list that it has the quick charge option. It also does have the charge cords for 120v outlets, verified by the dealer.

Oh yeah, I know it's got an EPA estimate of 150 miles. GOM read 141, but most importantly it had all bars. And there is a quick charger on the longer routes I want to take; while I don't want to QC often I have thought about the logistics of it. But thank you for showing support for the price! Makes me confident now is the time :)
