TL;DR - Is there any way to charge my Leaf SV faster using a good ol' regular 110v outlet in my town home? Is there really such a thing as a L2 charger that doesn't require a big dryer sized plug/port?
Hello again my fellow leaf lovers! I posted earlier about questions pertaining to my new (to me) 2016 Leaf SV. Thank you so much for your answers, encouragement and support! What a wonderful community. Truly made my day to know I'm not alone in this.
Maybe what I need now is for someone to tell me to suck it up, be grateful for what I have and stop dreaming, but I cannot get my mind off of any possible way to work around this and I'm sure I am not the only one...
I've seen several things online via blogs, Amazon, ads on EV apps, etc. about doing an L1 "upgrade" or buying an L2 charger with a plug adapter that will allow you to plug into the same 110v outlet.
I'm no electrician by any stretch, but if the purpose of a L2 charger is to boost the speed of charging beyond the capabilities of a L1 charger, wouldn't it require 220v's from the source, regardless of whether or not an adapter is used? Seems like a marketing gimmick to me... at least when it comes to the "L1 upgrade." But please, I'd be thrilled if you tell me I'm wrong.
It seems like my best bet for now is to go to the Nissan dealership that's a few miles down the road and charge up when needed. There are also a couple other fast charging options not terribly far from me. But, I really wanted to be able to charge my car from home in less than 17-24 hours. I know, first world problems.
If you've been able to find a way please share! Otherwise, oh well. Life goes on. I'm still very grateful for this vehicle, and right now for finding this community. Thanks everyone!
