In need of a brush killer/grass killer safe to use around mature trees

have several trees with overgrown bursh and vines around them. I have tried using a blade on my trimmer but the brush just comes back. What can I use to kill the brush but not the mature trees. I think they are mostly oak trees. I live in east Arkansas if that helps.
I have tried researching the right brush killer but I can't find anything specific about it being safe around trees
