I'm north of Seattle (Zone 1)
I purchased my house about 2 summers ago, and have been a little overwhelmed in the yard department (doubled the square footage). I have 2 toddlers, a dog, trees and moles that are trying to attack my lawn on the daily.
After much lurking on this sub, I went to my co-op and bought a pacific northwest mix of seed and some starter fertilizer. I then rented an aerator and went to work on the my lawn. That was a fun toy with some serious power. Spread the seed and the fertilizer and let my sprinklers mother nature do its work. We had a great run of 70 degree days with rain every other day, so I did not have to spend as much on water as I thought.
Went out yesterday and had my first mow in 3 weeks. I was really pleased with the look of the grass and just how green it looked. I should of dethatched a few places where my wife likes to let our dog do its business, but that will take place in the spring.
Thank you again everyone for your tips and tricks and for making this man proud to show off his lawn once again.
