I built a 10x10 gravel patio in my backyard and cleared out a ton of soil / dirt from the area that’s been sitting in my backyard. My brother in law came over today to help me sift through all the dirt and get the rocks out (wife wants all the rocks for other projects) and we use a make shift sifter to get through the dirt quickly. We were sifting the dirt over my wheelbarrow and my plan was to use the dirt to level out low spots in my lawn.
Well it ended up raining and the dirt that we had in the wheelbarrow ended up turning into mud. My BIL decided to take some Scott’s 3in1 Thick’r Lawn grass seed that I had in my garage and pour some into the wheel barrow with the muddy dirt/soil. He dumped all of it into a low spot on my lawn that I was planning on filling up and then overseeding anyway, but instead he poured all of this mud / seed into the spot and leveled it out.
His thought process makes sense. The dirt/soil is moist (it’s mud) and the seed inside of it will be able to absorb moisture and eventually germinate within the dirt once the excess water drains off (it’s already has approximately 4 hours after he did this).
Did he come up with a genius idea to easily spread dirt and seed? Or did we just waste a lot of time sifting through dirt and wasting Scott’s seed on a silly idea?
