Everything is quite overwhelming for me, What is a good class to learn the basics?

I've only ever played games where you have your character and that's it. I've never really played a multiplayer game that has all these extra perks and special abilities.
I started playing as soon as the beta came out yesterday, but I felt there were so many things to learn. Is there a good class I should start with and just main for a while?
