Ether 12:27 is a famous scripture, especially to those experiencing failings or weakness. It states that if we trust in God, weakness can become strength. Weakness can become strength.
So often we see weakness as something we want to get rid of. "If only I did not have this weakness," we might say, "Then I could trust in God." Well, today I want to make a statement, a personal belief of mine: Weakness is never something to be simply discarded. Yes, we may have impure thoughts as the result of weakness. Yes, weakness may be the cause of failings, but it of itself is not a fault, it is not a sin, and it is not something that has no value to perfect us.
Weakness can provide insight. And true insight, when applied to ourselves, exalts us. Weakness can become strength for the reason that it tests and proves us without of itself doing us spiritual harm. We might be gay or bisexual, we might have a weak mind, we might have a weak body, we might have a stutter or a limp. We might not live up to what we suppose we ought to be living up to. But our best is enough for God, no matter where we are spiritually or our situation.
Consider Isaiah 1:18. "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow." Consider a garment, that for some reason, was white, but was stained red. It has also undergone rips and tears. If that garment can symbolize us, God doesn't simply make the garment white again, he doesn't simply heal the rips and tears, He makes the garment stronger than it was before in the process, and He can even use those rips and tears to create a beautiful pattern. If we so desire, He can even turn the stain itself into something beautiful. He can add dyes and colors and make a wonderful multicolored coat. The garment doesn't have to be white to be clean.
If you think you have sinned beyond help, don't give up. See if you can make something of the situation you got yourself into. Even weakness created by sin can become strength.
