The song "When I am Baptized" from the Children's Songbook has a line that goes like this: "I want my life to be as clean as Earth right after rain". I have often pondered this line. This Earth is a Telestial sphere. It is filled with dirt, and has swamps and mires.
But rain refreshes the Earth. It causes plants to grow. It brings about rainbows.
This teaches one important lesson: God does not expect us to be perfectly clean. He expects us to be fully clean, whatever that means for each of us. We will still house dirt on our skin and bacteria in our bodies. We will slowly (or quickly) die. Due to the way that life works, we will often unknowingly harm ourselves or others.
But we will learn. We get better. And as we prepare for our death and go the way of all the earth, we will come to appreciate cleanliness more, even as our bodies and minds may become less clean due to no fault of our own.
