Basically I'm an EMT and I'm looking into Lasik or other corrective surgery where my dependence on glasses is reduced.
I'm sure I could come up with a long list of stuff I could say like interfering with protective equipment, glasses falling off when you're doing CPR, not being able to readjust them while you're holding pressure on a wound or psych patients who decide to start flailing around and knocks off your glasses. (At -5.75 in each eye I'm basically blind without them and it becomes a struggle to deal with an unruly patient.)
But my main reason is driving during the day without sunglasses is painful when its going right into your eyes. I'm a great driver with my car but I've had a few close calls cause the sun was distracting me when driving the ambulance.
I tried contacts. Didn't work out since my eyes never felt comfortable with them on.
This article says that they might cover it for people with certain safety requirements like police and firefighters might be able to get coverage. I want to know how likely it is to get it covered under that basis. I just don't like it and its also a safety issue for patients if I can't see good all the time.
