Ok everyone,
I am new to laser engraving but have taken on the task of locating a laser engraving system that will be used to engrave serial tags for the company I work for. We are looking to locate an easy to use machine (For someone who is generally technology proficient) in which we can engrave our serial tags. Preferably something that we could make a pre-built design and then input serial number, model number, customer number, part number, date of manufacture, etc. to be engraved onto an aluminum tag.
We aren't currently looking for something that will do large quantities quickly as we usually only have to produce on average of 50 tags monthly to keep up with production. We are a small business that re manufactures diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, and other drivetrain components.
We currently pay about $5 per tag to be pre-engraved with company logo and marked with serial, model, part #, date of manufacture blocks and then have to hand punch our information onto the tags. I believe there has to be a cheaper and more efficient way for us to make our tags. From doing research I was turned to fiber/Co2 laser engraving. But having very little knowledge of laser engraving systems, I have no idea what type of machine I should be looking for or what laser power wattage I should be aiming for.
Any help on the subject would be extremely helpful. Most of the machines I have seen have ranged from $7k-$30K .
