Surprised by the reaction here! They’ve talked a lot about psychics and mediums before so I thought it was very interesting to hear them go through something like this. The reading was so RANDOM (eye health? Ok…) and unsatisfying; I was hoping for something a little more mystical and deep. I personally think supernatural stuff is interesting in the way it sparks our own thinking and interpretation — it’s all like a Rorschach to me — but the random medical details that are somehow both granular and vague are not particularly insightful.

I don’t think it’s irresponsible to talk to a medium on a comedy podcast — they aren’t saying to use a psychic to invest your savings, and even with the weird health stuff Tyler literally says to consult a doctor. With love and light, we all gotta let the podcast be B&M’s thing… they do not have a responsibility to only say things that are Perfectly Uncancellable, and when podcasts start doing that they get profoundly boring. Sure, it’s pseudoscience, but it’s not like their platform is about unadulturated peer-reviewed truth. Let them be credulous jesters now and then!

That said, on the topic of profoundly boring, Tyler was nottttt a fun guest. He’s a reality tv star and a baby-faced twink who scribbles himself into a trance… that is very funny to me and when they said a few weeks ago that they wanted him on I thought it would certainly be some delightful nonsense. I expected a lot more levity and camp. But he was very rehearsed and dry. If they hadn’t included the reading it would have been completely nothing.

If you skip episodes when they aren’t stellar then sure, this isn’t their best, but I personallyyyyyy did not find it offensive and am surprised that others did! I always like hearing Matt be really earnest :) I hope they do not give this boy any more money bc he is a bit of a flop but whatever!! It was a fun idea!
