I live in a home with cracks under a door that I just can't cover up if I am to keep the door functioning, spiders crawl in through there and yesterday I found a black widow inside near the door. I have no deck or porch--the moment I step outside I have concrete blocks to walk on and grass to my left and right. Well, not just grass as of a month ago, I recently laid out some black mulch to my left and right to plan some plants, but I'm now reading mulch attracts insects who want to live under it. I also read cypress and cedar mulch "repel" insects which I'm considering switching to. But my question now is, should I get rid of the mulch all together, or will using cypress/cedar mulch be even better than no mulch at all? FYI, I have had spiders and insects come in ALL the time, even before I put down the black mulch, and I'm not crazy about having mulch outside, although it'd be nice to have it. My main priority is ridding of as many insects as possible though.
