Greeting /r/landscaping,
My wife and I are moving to a new house on 5 acres of lovely Ohio woods (Zone 6a). Unfortunately, the area hasn't really been kept it. The moss has taken over the flagstone path. The path from the house to the barn is just dirt and a bit steep. Lots of honeysuckle growing everywhere. General neglect.
I am very new to landscaping and am looking for any books/sites/articles/etc to learn specifically about woods and landscaping wooded areas. Should I create some sort of groundcover or leave it as it is now (mostly dirt with sparse plants here and there)? Should I try to plant grass (lots of shade from the trees above)?
There is a gazaeebo, but it is basically surrounded by dirt.
What could you recommend for learning? Would pictures be helpful? Any programs/apps to try out?
Thanks
