So my boyfriend has recently gotten really into plants/landscaping and is helping his mom landscape their backyard. He’s also started working at a garden center, so his employee discount and constant access to plants has started an obsession lol.
Just some context: My boyfriend’s basement apartment door (large sliding glass door) faces the backyard, and also the neighbors front yard. The neighbors and their kids are always out in their yard so I understand wanting a privacy hedge.
He mentioned to me this morning that he wants to plant bamboo to act as a privacy hedge and after my personal experience at my own house (rental) and the horror stories on this sub, I’m trying so hard to convince him not to go down the horrible path. His justification is cost and time it would take to grow. It would be super close to the foundation of the house and side neighbors yard, which is just even more of a reason not to go through with the plan. (Not sure if this matters but we are in the Chesapeake Bay Area of Maryland)
He won’t listen to me, so maybe y’all can help me out with convincing him this is a terrible idea!
There are two types of bamboo.
Clumping and spreading.
Clumping is fine. I have it on my fence and around my pool.
