I try to use a lot of scraps and shorts and when it comes to the larger diameter stuff (like say, 32x4mm to 50x4mm tubing) I have a hard time working with it once it is shorter than maybe 10-12 inches long and open on both ends and sometimes with cracks or uneven openings that need to be cleaned up.
I work with a bench roller to keep it steady but still, so much heat comes up the tube that I can't hold it well. I've tried using claw grabbers but with the heavier tubing it can't keep grip well enough to spin it evenly when I'm working the other end and I usually wind up with an off-center blow tube or punty.
How do you guys work with this situation? Thanks in advance!
