Post Body

Hey all. I'm a recent masters graduate but have been working in research for over 8 years. This week I got into an argument with a phd student from my lab because I submitted an abstract for a conference and did not put her name in It. This abstract was regarding my Msc thesis, which this other student did not participate activelly in any discussions nor did any figures or experiments. She did help with things like putting some media on my cells in the weekends (and I do the same for her sometimes) or staining cells for flow cytometry (again, I also do that for her. Its an immunology lab, so thats pretty basic everyday stuff). Well, she was pissed, called me ungrateful in front of other students, selfish etc. For me its totally indifferent to put her name in. I Just didn't because in my former lab the general agreement was that coauthorship was only granted for people that actually know the project and help on discussions, planning and performing experiments. I know this changes from group to group and told her so, but she didn't back up... I then told her that If I should put her name in It, she probably should do the same and put my name in her stuff (which she doesnt) since our degree of helping each other is the same. She did not respond to this. My feeling is that being a senior PhD student she thinks she is automatically superior to me and should be credited, which I think is complete BS. What do you guys think?

Ps. English is not my first language Edit: typos
