I unironically think that shit like this will long term damage science itself. You're running out a very strong cadre of people in the name of turning it into the same sociopathic rat race as the new Yorker socialite scene.
Scientists are odd. If you don't let them be that they're going to stop being scientists or just. Y'know. Stop, if they run up against walls everywhere in their life.
This is no less than part of a concerted society-wide bullying effort.
