So, the thing is: During my undergrad back in Brazil, I worked with a professor for a couple years and did my bachelors thesis in her lab. It was a small lab with very few low-impact publications. Now, 6 years later, i have a nice CV and am doing my PhD in europe. I already have some papers and expect more to come in the next years. Then, this undergrad advisor contacted me about publishing part of my bachelor thesis results along with some other results from a masters student (both in same project) in a journal that invited her to publish. We already have a drafted manuscript for this data written 2 years ago that was never published. I looked at the journal and it seems weird... its from Gavin Publishers, which I never heard about but a quick google tells me it might be predatory.
My question is: this paper will not make any difference in my CV, and I could just omit it from it altogether. But it will make a difference for this professor since she hasnt really published lately. So should I just go with it and let her publish in the journal? I will be second author, masters student first. I would like to avoid the drama of telling her that I prefer to not have my name on it or something like that.
Thanks everyone!
Edit: I replied her indicating that the journal might be predatory and pointed out weird things about the inviting email (the email said 'any kind of manuscript can be suited for our next issue' and 'if you already have a manuscript, kindly submit it directly in reply to this email'). I also just wanted to point out that a lot of times us academics look at PIs as super busy people (and i know they are, I have a lot of PIs in my family) who can just 'accidentally overlook' this type of nonsense, while us grad students apparently have all the time in the world... I just dont agree with that, and feel like she should have realized it on her own, specially given that she has decades more experience than me. Oh well.. Edit: typos
