People who went through the lab moving, how was it?
Post Body

Im a second year international PhD student and my lab in europe might move to the US next year. Has anyone been through an overseas move like that? How did it affect your PhD timeline? Do you regret moving along with your PI?

Context: my lab is in switzerland which means im also looking at a major salary reduction if going to the US. However, i would like to avoid changing labs and starting over...

For life outside work, i already moved overseas to europe, so i would just be moving to a third continent lol. Anyways i chose europe specifically because i wanted to avoid the US (toxic research culture and shitty conditions for PhD students... but on the other hand i will be with my current PI and know he is not toxic himself..)

Also, what quality of living should I more or less expect as a PhD student in either new york city or san diego?
