Implant infection 8 years after having surgery
Post Body

Had metal rods fitted to fix curve never had a problem then December 2021 has suspected discitis have anti-biotics on a picc line for 6 weeks on going pain until now and only just seen a specialist. The specialist said there is no signs of discitis ever being there and it looks like December 2021 was the start of a implant infection started also blood markers confirm infection. The surgeon has gave me options and all come with risk he said take metal work out and clear infection and not reinsert metal the risk of this is the spine deformity coming back. Second option is surgery clear infection reinsert new metal work but hooks will have to be used instead of screws due to fusion which aren’t as sturdy and then the risk is not all infection is cleared and will require another op in future. The screws have come away and I have a bump leaving it is not a option as it could come through the skin. Has anyone had a infection years after surgery when they are already fused In a perfect world I want to get rid of infection and have no deformity. Anyone experienced similar I have been let down so much if when I went to the hospital I was listened to during these two years this wouldn’t be happening. I have a hard choice to make and neither seem great
