Question about Kyokushin techniques
Post Body

Hey there. So as the title suggests, I want to ask about what the techniques are like in Kyokushin. I'm looking to start training in that or Seidokaikan now that Covid restrictions are gradually being lifted.

I trained goju-ryu for almost a decade, and I trained a little bit in shotokan, but I did not like shotokan very much. The techniques felt very rigid, contorted, and unnatural; I constantly found myself wanting to default to goju stuff. For example, I much prefer goju's kake-uke over shotokan's shuto-uke, and I really wasn't a fan of shotokan's katas.

As I understand it, Kyokushin and its related styles draw a lot of influence from both goju and shotokan. So my question is, how "shotokany" is Kyokushin? I'm taking a trial class at a nearby seido place in a few weeks, so I could just wait it out, but that's only one place. I'm mostly trying to see if it's worth it for me to pursue Kyokushin at all, given my personal preferences.

Thank you, and as always...osu!
