The support person I chatted with seemed so lost/confused on this matter. Here's what happened. Yesterday (12/26) I checked out for a delivery order. 24 items, confirmation email shows estimated subtotal $138.84. Today (12/27) I receive my items, and my final receipt shows a total of $251! What I think happened, was that the weekly ad ended yesterday on 12/26 and I was charged full price for many items in my order which were on sale or had coupons yesterday. Notably, the prime rib roast advertised at $6 something a pound charged me $16.98/lb!
They are processing a refund, but this seems wildly abusive to the consumer... how many people don't check their receipts closely and are checking out for delivery a few days in the future (you can book a delivery slot multiple days in advance...) and are getting charged non-sale prices? I basically only buy things on sale, use tons of coupons, etc... this is a HUGE bait and switch and seems like it should be illegal. If Kroger is advertising a price in the app, and I check-out my cart, I expect to pay the prices advertised. I understand for things like meat, you're getting something that isn't an exact weight, but you should still pay the price per pound that was advertised.
Is it supposed to work this way? I'm seriously concerned and don't want to have to play games with my cart/coupons/sale dates/delivery dates to pay the advertised prices...
