It would be so cool if we on Reddit had a r/popculturechat, but for Korean pop culture
Post Body

his thought crossed my mind while I was browsing reddit and I realised I was hanging out a lot on r/popheads and r/popculturechat, and that there are a lot of discussions on there.

I know we have the Kpop subreddits for the pop music side (equivalent to popheads), but in the end we somehow don't have a platform to actually discuss Korean pop culture in general. The conversation would also involve the k-drama and k-movie industry, TV variety, K-youtube, Trot, you name it. Just everyone that somehow makes the news (and yes that would actually involve politicians, news anchors... everyone that has a fandom LMFAOO)

The pros and cons... are quite a few. First of all, since Korean entertainment is such a "good image" driven industry, all the shade and so wouldn't fly well. And let's be honest - anything "newsworthy" is already discussed in their respective subreddits such as r/koreanvariety and the kpop subs (except the K-drama world, r/KDRAMA does not allow any big discussions as such).

Another con would be that we would turn into another OneHallyu forum/omonatheydidnt pretty quick and attract a lot of people who are just there for the gossip and... we all know how that ends.

And... imagine the amount of moderation needed. r/kpop is having a problem already when a bigger scandal happens and the comments go out of the hand, if our koreanpopculturechat subreddit gets to even half the size, a lot of Guest List Only posts will be going up for sure.

But a pro would be that we could discuss a lot of thing in history and educate a lot more people ( for example, post about older pre-2000s k-dramas and celebrities, as well as scandals and happenings from like the 60s or 70s - there were a LOT). There is a big part of korean pop culture history that is pretty much out of the conversation nowadays but is just so interesting.

Another pro is that you can voice out your opinions and add your two cents lol.

What do y'all think? (and no I won't open that sub even if a lot of people wanna. I'm already neglected the few subs I mod like r/trot or r/gugak, and even r/kpopnostalgia is looking a bit bleak)
