If I had a dollar for everytime a popular 80s - 90s male singer's child debuted as an idol, I'd have 5 dollars. Which ain't much, but still surprising to me.
Post Body

Imma cut straight to the chase :

Jeon Young-rok had his daughters, Jeon Bo-ram and Jeon Woo-ram debut. Boram made it big as T-ara, while Wooram didn't really make a big mark at all to the point I don't really remember her group's name. (It's giving Kajol debuting vs Tanishaa Mukherjee debuting, for all my bollywood freaks. With the difference that Jeon Young-rok was much more succesful in his field than their mother Tanuja was. Oh and he's a nepo baby too, like Tanuja.) Edit : it was D-Unit and her stage name was "RAM". Yeah ok I'm Indian. I'll stop here. The group debuted 2012, and disbanded after a year.

Park Namjung (a.k.a. Korean Micheal Jackson / "ㄱ ㄴ" dance dude) had his daughter, Park Si-eun debut as a child actress, then she became a JYP Entertainment trainee, and thenleft and joined Black Eyed Pilseung in their company and debuted as StayC.

Earlier this year, Shim Shin's daughter Shim Hye-won debuted in KISS OF LIFE under the stage name Belle. She was a songwriter before (most popularly was part of the songwriters who wrote Lesserafim's "Unforgiven", and also wrote B-sides on Purple Kiss and GIDLE Miyeon's albums) but now has officially debuted, alongside famed trainee/soloist Natty.

And now, Yoon Sang's older son, Yoon Chan-young, is to debut with SM Entertainment in their new boy group pretty soon this year. Chan-young was a swimmer/athlete and a cello player.

---

Now I know at least 3/4 of these names, if not more, don't tell y'all anything - "who tf are these hags anyways?" - but to a good, big chunk of South Koreas population, these names awake childhood and teenage stanning memories LMAO. The way y'all are gonna react if one day, y'all see "EXO Baekhyun's daughter has signed to XYZ Entertainment" or "Kang Daniel's daughter to debut in XYZ girl group". (If y'all haven't "unstanned" by that point of time lolz).

Plus I'm your local 80s-90s nerd so I know all of these peeps a bit too well for my age LMAO.

The reason I'm mentioning these talented girls' fathers is not to take away from their talents and achievements, but to a) tell those who don't know so that if on any case y'all see a random good-looking ahjusshi in some tiktok or dance challenge video, you know what's up and b) to kinda put together some fun trivia for y'all (that is probably gonna go in in one ear and come out from the other LMAO)

Trivia 0 : Jeon Young-rok is the only "nepo baby" among the fathers. He is the son of actor Hwang Hae and actress Baek Seolhee. As a result, Boram and Wooram are the only "3rd gen" celebrities among the kids,

Trivia 1: Yoon Sang and Shim Shin debuted in the same year, in 1990. Yoon Sang debuted 3 months after Shin, after composing over half his debut album for him. Their kids are gonna debut in the same year too, just exactly 33 years later. (Also, interestingly, in this case, Belle/ Shim Shin's daughter wrote songs for other artists before debut)

(Trivia 1.1 but this is just my drama-loving ass . so just skip this section PLEASE I BEG YOU - ok too late: Although Shim Shin is pretty popular as a singer, he is (sadly) most remembered for dating the early 90's pop culture icon and "innocent beauty", Kang Susie/Sooji, who also worked with Yoon Sang as a composer for her hits "Purple Fragrance", "Scent In The Times", and "Scattered Days", as well as several other b-sides. All three were under the same agency. These three thus had somewhat the same-ish music style, worked together frequently, and if Susie and Shin hadn't had their eXtReMeLy ScAnDalOuS relationship, they could've easily performed as a trio. If Kiss Of Life ever get assigned to do "You'll Know Then" for a "90s ballad" themed cover stage... oh boy. First off why would they do that when you could give them any other 90s song or even one of Belle's father's ballads, because imagine singing your father's ex song that she explicitly wrote for your father after they broke up ouch- Or even worse, imagine being Susie's daughter and debuting? She's a 03 liner after all...

"Annyeonghaseyo, we are ___!"

"Annyeonghaseyo, we're Kiss Of Life"

"Hey, aren't you Shim Hyewon? Shim Shin's daughter?"

"Yeah, that's me. And you are Hwang Vivianna? Nice to meet you"

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Kang Sooji's daughter, by the way"

"..."

"Well... there goes."

"...Wait, so just to set the record straight - My dad and your mom actually had a ... thing back in the days? And somehow everyone still knows?"

"They actually did. Seems like no one has forgotten either."

"..."

"Wow."

"Yep"

"..."

"So... we could've been sisters...?"

"Girl, I doubt we'd have been born. You really think they'd manage longer than two years?"

"Yeah... about that... no"

-- end of the weird fictional story about two very real girls my age IM SO SORRY --

Actual Trivia 2 : Park Namjung and Shim Shin both starred on the TV series "Star Junior Show : Fish Bread" with their respective idol-to-be daughters.

Trivia 3 : Jeon Young-rok's daughters, Boram and Wooram, are the only ones who didn't debut as a main vocalist in their groups. Sieun and Belle are the main vocalists of their group, while Chanyoung's position is (obviously duh) not known. In T-ara, Soyeon was the main vocalist while Zin was the main vocal in D-unit.

Trivia 4 : Yoon Sang is the only father to have never acted. Jeon Young-rok was in fact a "nepo baby actor" first and debuted later - just like Park Namjung's daughter Sieun - and one of the first singers to actually parallely do music and acting. Shim Shin did a few movies in the 90s but only sporadically, and Park Namjung starred in exactly 1 movie.

(also is this how I find out that the actors Lee Deok-hwa and Jo Hyung-ki are nepo babys too? WHAT??? Like ok, that crazy screen presence and talent gotta come from somewhere, well DAMN. That one specific generation of nepo bois (which also most definitely includes: Choi Minsoo, Heo Junho and Dokgo Youngjae) sure outdid their fathers by miles. As an Indian : Respect. I don't see this case too often.)

Trivia 5 : The kids are debuting exactly in order of their father's ages - Jeon Youngrok is the oldest (1954, it's also been exactly 50 years since he debuted, this year) - then Park Namjung (1966), then Shim Shin (1967) and last, Yoon Sang (1968). In the same order, it's Boram (debut 2009) - Wooram (2012) - Sieun (2020) - Belle (2023) and Chanyoung (2023) last.

So yeah that was that LMAO. If you're sitting here and wondering "wtf did I just learn..?", I'm also discovering weird new things everyday. Like the fact that Hye Eunyi's absolute killer smash hit "You Wouldn't Know" isn't an original but a cover - but that's for another day LMAO. Peace out gg

EDIT : BRAINFART BRAINFART Hye Eunyi's song is the original and it was just covered on the College Music Fest in 77 by the Sungshin Womens's Uni team, ITS THE ORIGINAL NOT A COVER LMAO I STAND CORRECTED
