What group brought you to kpop? Are you still a fan of them? Share your story.
So here's my story. I started taking interest on kpop when I was around 9 years, year 2013, I'm on 4th grade. Yes, I'm that young lol
So back then, Kpop is not really my thing. To tell you honestly, I was homophobic towards it (I'm not proud btw). My classmate during that time was a hardcore EXOTIC (ugh, this name is so nostalgic). She stan EXO and I still remembered my exact line during english class, "Isn't all of them are gay?" then laughed. She was slightly offended by my remarks. What she did was listed all the 12 names on a paper and gave it to me, saying I should search their name for me to know them. At first, I really don't care. However, one time, I was bored as hell. I found the piece of paper and decided tonsearch their names on facebook (I don't use social media that well) and was intrigued because they all look the same to me except D.O.
And then, my curiosity hits me. I began to search for their songs and the funny thing was, I heard the chinese versions of their songs first (EXO-M - GROWL). When my classmate played the korean version I was confused as hell because why do they sound the same but different language. And that's when I began learning their concepts, names, songs, and eventually became EXO-L/EXOTIC.
My first ever bias was Luhan :((. My first love in kpop, my first ever crush in kpop. During my baby exo-l era, I though Sehun and Luhan are identical. I can't differentiate their faces (but eventually I figured it out.) I still remember, I would save all of my school money to print their pictures, buy their pins, wolf 88 shirts and caps. Every lunch break, my bestfriend (who also became an exo-l because of me) and I go to computer shop and print their pictures (Photocards are not a thing back then lol), download their videos and musics. I had to oay for those since I don't know how to download music from my cellphone.
I was a typical teenage kpop fan experience and I eventually, I began to stan other groups also. Apink and SNSD were added to my stan groups. I even had a bangs because I watched Taeyeon's I lol.
And then, kristaohan left. I lost interest. I stopped following their activities and made me lost track of them. And that's where I became an army during 2016 until now. 2015 was a rough time for me as an exo-l since my bias left. I think it's normal to lost interest when your bias left the group right? I was young back them. I was hurt. And I found that excitement again with BTS.
Their recent comeback came to my recommendations and I watched the whole thing. I smiled and saw the growth they had for the past years. I remembered them being so innocent guys with crazy hairstyles haha
Looking back to my 9 year old self, there's something in my heart that I can't explain. Even I don't stan them anymore, THEY WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE TO MY HEART. Without EXO, I would not be introduce to kpop. My elementary years would be boringgg without them.
Thank you EXO. I hope I could meet you in the future to thank you in person. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors and I would be your silent fan. :) /Cries ;((((((
