I'm disappointed Chris Brown is still being celebrated in kpop
Post Body

While I know it's not just kpop where Chris Brown still has fans, since this is a kpop forum and I see it continue to come up in kpop, I'm bringing it up.

I saw that Lisa's new dance video is to Chris Brown. Maybe since a lot of her fans are younger, it's not as big of a deal for them or they don't remember what he did. But for me, I can never get the image of Rihanna's face out of my head. I know he's a big influence on a lot of kpop for his dancing skills, but I think using his music now just kind of erases what he did and endorses him (I feel the same if someone were to use R Kelly).

She has a ton of impressionable fans, so I can't really get behind this. I know it's not just Lisa who is a fan, I remember him being in kpop for at least a decade, it's just this recent one from such a high profile idol brought it to mind again.

She's very talented and popular, so it'd be cool if for her next video she picked someone up and coming, or at least unproblematic. They could use the exposure!

I don't feel this is very ranty, just feeling sad and defeated about it, especially after seeing Chris Brown post about her now. But I was told I couldn't put this in the opinions sub, so here it is!

It’s funny because in my religion/culture (I’m South Asian), we cover our heads like that too ahah - men & women. I think that’s why I’ve always just thought of it as a head covering rather than black culture specific (also I’m not from the US). However, I can understand why people would be offended.
