yeah from the title I think you may have at least a slight idea of what I'm going to talk about. you know how whenever "something" happens and a discussion has been opened up and international fans are of course going to talk but sometimes the way they go about things just really look racist to me. especially when an issue is inherently "Korean issue" but somehow international fans like to talk over real Korean people as if they would know better? and that for me is racist. its doesn't even have to be Korean issues, them wanting for Korean people to always be somehow aware of all the society issues of absolute everyone all over the globe and be somehow immediately "woke" and cancelling them when they have shown that they're not is just racist in itself too (for me anyway). like you have your traditional views and they have their own albeit some of them are just old fashion and wrong you can't just expect a whole nation to change in a blink of an eye just because you're demanding it now.
with a lot of societal issues that I'm seeing in twt from all over the world somehow a lot of people are really pushing everything down every Korean people's (idols, commoners, etc) throat like yes let's educate them, let them be more aware of what's happening outside their country but somehow if they didn't "perform/participate/act" like how you are expecting or want them to a lot of you somehow becomes racist too towards them in your quest to make them SEE and I don't even know if y'all are aware of it yourselves or not.
idk what I'm saying at this point this is just a rant and I can't formulate what I'm really trying to say here like when i see international fans go about educating idols and somehow I just find myself "but isn't that a bit racist towards them too" (it's sometimes the way international fans go about it really) gosh I can't explain it, why is it so hard đ
The biggest things I can think of at the moment is of the mass stereotyping of Korean people and society that occurs among Ifans (e.g. calling them ignorant, colourist/racist, only caring about appearances, even one post called Koreans unhygienic) while consistent ignoring historical context and nuance. This consistently happens, and while some aspects of society are like this, without understanding or addressing the context of K history, it really perpetuates a false narrative that is super offensive (e.g. not acknowledging the destructive colonialism of Korea by Japan/US deepening anti foreign sentiment bringing in Christianity and hence homophobia furthering colourist sentiments and internalization of white superiority). If one is inserting themselves into another countryâs culture and hoping to comment on it, is it not necessary to be educated on its context so you donât perpetuate racist and culturally insensitive stereotypes? Same with the US - just as we wouldnât want people to think of African Americans as poor or dangerous (which is often considered a racist and harmful stereotype) based solely on certain portrayals and without considering the context of US history that has brought black people down consistently, canât Ifans give the same thought and respect to Koreans and Asians in general?

Sometimes I feel like some I fans portray Koreans (and Asians in general) as big and mighty oppressors and use that to justify the racist things they say to them. Even a brief look at Korean history would show the devastation brought to Korea due to colonialism and western imperialism and the consistent racism that is put against them. Why canât such issues be looked into with nuance? I feel like Ifans feel a claim over Korea just because they are Kpop fans, and hence feel the need to comment on everything Korean related and help change it (which, especially if they are Western, feels super imperialist to me). Some western fans really need to understand their place. They use the fact that they think Kpop is just âwestern music in Koreanâ to claim it and put their voice in it. Regardless of how much YOU think it doesnât have elements of Korean culture in it, it does and itâs a part of Korean pop culture & history which has allowed the country to turn its history of colonialism into something beneficial for the nation. Please understand this.
