I’ve been thinking about how the rise of global K-pop groups like Katseye, Dear Alice, and VCHA (if alive and rebranded) and even BlackSwan might actually help revive the music group scene in the Western market.
When you look at current Western groups like Flo, No Guidnce, Psiryn, Citizen Queen, and Say Now, they’ve got the talent and potential, but the most of them are either still new, independent, or labels just don’t give them so much funding. These groups are actually doing their best and actually reviving that market.
But global K-pop groups could change that. I think the problem that will arise will be this: okay another pop group that hits all the markers for diversity. Plus I definitely think if VCHA doesn’t rebrand and maybe take the NewJeans route the west will definitely not be too keen on too many mid teens in a group because Gen Z are almost all adults now and the next gen looks at Gen Z for music. Also Besides that, if global groups continue to make waves, they could open the door for Western acts to get a bigger push.
What do you think? How do you feel about Global Groups?
