In many korean variety shows, the PDs (producers/cameramen of the show) are either a side character or active participant themselves alongside the main characters. Running man and Earth's Arcade are examples. In RM, PDs are implied side characters, often shown in shots due to the fast paced nature of RM, and sometimes being referenced and joked about by main characters. In EA, Na PD and others are overtly a main character, an extreme version where the PD itself shows their face on purpose.

Is this a Korean "invention"? Did the West ever produce these kind of shows? Japan or China? Any examples?
