The weird Lutheran “takeover” of Korea

Post Body

So doing some random doom scrolling, I found out Yoon’s minister for Agriculture, the former acting president/Prime Minister, and one of the leaders of the PPP are all Lutherans.

Edit: the former leader of the Council of Unification was a prosecutor appointed by Yoon that is also a Lutheran.

There are only 5,000 Lutherans in Korea (and probably not that much more amongst the diaspora). Yet they are dramatically over representEd in government and it seems 3/4 of the mentioned ones go to the same church (I could be wrong about this one).

We were always worried about a cult taking over while our ancestors of the Joseon Court worried about Buddhists and Catholics, turns out we should have been worried about Lutherans, a religion that didn’t even enter Korea until 1958 (unless you count the missionary who introduced potatoes and grapes).

It’s kind of funny that Yoon has appointed so many Lutherans. A tiny and relatively insignificant sect in Korea. They are approximately .001% of the population.

this is said in jest and I really hope no one thinks I hate Lutherans now
