I just watched Indru Netru Naalai and I love the way it was written and how R. Ravi Kumar used such a high brow Hollywood concept and managed to write a very tight and well-paced story for an Indian audience.

But the chemistry between Vishnu Vishal and Karunakaran was what made it so entertaining for me. It got me thinking if there are other buddy movies (like Paul, Hot Fuzz, Rush Hour, MIB) in tamil cinema. Off the top of my head, the ones I enjoyed watching are Va: Quarter Cutting, Briyani, Arai En 305-il Kadavul besides Indru Netru Naalai.

I think the hero concept has resulted in us not having that many good buddy movies. Usually when we do have our ‘buddy movies’ there is a clear cut difference in the way they handle the hero and the comedian character to fit our formula. These are the movies with Santhanam or Soori usually like VSOP, All in All Azhagu Raja, VVS. Then, there are multi-starrer movies like Friends, but these kind of movies don’t have that chemistry between the leads that buddy movies need to have.
