Making a fishing net. Why should I use the Carrick bend?
Post Body

I've recently been working on making a haaf net from traditional rope and twine. So far I've been using flax hemp, and my test nets have been fairly small.

I've had pretty good results simply using the larks head to attach my strands, then simple overhand around a gauge piece to make the netting.

Generally the recommendation seems to be to use the Carrick bend, or a netting needle. But I don't really see why? I mean I see good reasons to switch my larks head to clove hitch. But why would I use the Carrick Bend? Or a netting needle for that matter? Over hand seems way quicker.
