I've been attempting to make this shirt for some time now and cannot figure out the pattern (frustrating!) I am relatively new to knitting clothes - the furthest I've been to knitting something large that I could wear was a simple poncho and pull over cardigan.

Anyhow, what confuses me most is the # x # sts ( ie. 1 x 4 sts) What does this imply? In general just confused on the pattern. It seems so vague to me. I've taken it to local yarn shops and a few of the knittin' queens couldn't really give me clear answers.

If anyone could explain to me exactly what this pattern means that would be greatly appreciated crosses fingers I've been dying to make this shirt for a friend!
