Question about knit picks

I always hear people saying how great knit picks is, so I was thinking about ordering some yarn. I've read a bunch of reviews and a lot of them seem to say that the yarn is on the thinner side.. is it? I wanted to get some Wool of The Andes to make Christmas stockings, but I don't want it to be too thin. How does it compare to, say, simply soft (since simply soft tends to be on the lighter side too)?
