Hello! I recently started playing and am loving it!
As I'm playing, I'm finding that it would be nice to "reserve" materials for a specific build. It would also be useful to have a way to pin a certain number of resources or buildings/upgrades/etc. for more visible goal setting.
Here's some simple examples:
Current planning method without resource reservation
- I want to build a Warehouse.
- I need 10k more wood and minerals to make the requisite beams and slabs.
- I make a mental note and begin working on other tasks.
- I realize I have enough starcharts and plate to make a Trading Ship but need to build scaffolds.
- I create said scaffolds and build a Trade Ship.
- I go back to check the progress of my Warehouse resources and see that I used a large portion of the wood I needed.
- Shucks
Planning method with resource reservation
- I want to build a Warehouse.
- I need 10k more wood and minerals to make the requisite beams and slabs.
- I pin the Warehouse and set the target total to 1x.
- An item appears in my Pins denoting that I am working towards a Warehouse.
- The pinned text is likely red or grey until it can be built.
- I begin looking at other tasks.
- I realize I have enough starcharts and plate to make a Trading Ship but need to build scaffolds.
- I attempt to build scaffolding but am warned that this material is reserved for another build.
- This could be done as a popup or as a non-clickable button/link with some helper text.
- This could even be given a different color to denote that it's reserved rather than unachievable with current caps.
- I abandon the Trading Ship and instead build a Steamworks.
The above tool/feature would also benefit those that have a target structure/upgrade/etc. in mind but are prone to forgetting when stepping away for an extended time. Granted, this part could be resolved with a simple notepad entry, but still.
I hope this helps further improve the game or, at minimum, inspires a modder out there.
Have fun y'all!
