Question about Iron Will mode

Hi, I just decided to give Iron Will mode a go, after i researched archery and got my first zebra I appear to have stopped getting any astronomical events after 4 in-game years.
Is this expected, or am I just being really unlucky?
I get that the whole point of Iron Will mode is that it's meant to be slower and harder than the normal way of playing, but this seems a bit too hard to nerf the only way of getting science so early?
