How long can I leave items in a random chest before they disappear?

Can't find a halfway decent answer anywhere.

Anyway, passing Skalitz on a side quest, some guards were murdering a pack of Cumans that were seriously decked out in comparison to where I am with gear and money. Easily 10k loot. But being like 800lbs i obviously can't get it all back in one haul unless I literally crawl all the way to the nearest blacksmith 2 towns over.

Decided to drop a lot of it off in the chest at my parents torched house and i'm curious what exactly would trigger it to empty the crate?
