I bought the game 20th of November 2018 and it took me 5 years to finish. I have made about a dozen attempts but each time i was unsatisfied with the outcome of some quest so I put the game down again.
This time I resolved to accept that not all things are fully under my control and live with what I achieve. I also played hardcore with all negative perks. Boy that was hard and rewarding.
I resolved to roleplay a bit and not turn into a murderous super villain but tread carefully instead. Also hardcore all perks meant I'd get my ass handed to me every time I looked at someone the wrong way. I made money by stealth raiding bandit camps and knocking them out leaving a bunch of naked knocked out dudes lying in the woods. Sometimes I'd spike their pots with some halucinogenics afterwards... By the end of the game I had killed only 87 humans and about 70 of those were in the story battles. But I had knocked 132 out.
Some notes:
- Stephanie's Shirt was my drib (when not wearing armor) till the end
- Pebbles all the way!
- Combat is hard. I only managed to win a 3v1 once (when escorting Adela to Sasau) with heavy potion use
- Hitting anything with arrows beyond 10 meters is impossible. (Shot 1159 arrows, hit 98 targets)
- Got 103 quests, failed 4
- Never won the Rattay tourney
- I had a lot of unused skill points at the end (Main level was 18)
What I'd have loved to see:
Better stealth mechanics with some way to make a sound to get bad guys to investigate. Have you played Far Cry 3? The stone throwing mechanic is awesome. You can use the horse whistle in KCD becaue enemys will come and investigate but you'll have your horse stand in the bush you whistled from which is just silly and breaks immersion. Same thing with your dog that's running around in a bandit camp you're planning to raid and barking up everyone's leg and the bandits don't mind him at all.
Overall 10/10 game that feels like Bohemian GTA V.
