Not Irish or Scottish - want to wear a kilt without appropriating
Post Body

UPDATE: Thank you so much, everyone, for your input. I’ll look to see what I like, wear it proudly, and hope to make some new friends along the way.

Title, basically. What would be an acceptable kilt for someone without Scottish or Irish heritage to wear without appropriating a tartan pattern that I don’t have any claim to wearing? I’m guessing solid colours are ok, but are there any patterns that are also acceptable?

Scotsman here. Most of us don't really care if you want to wear a tartan so long as you're wearing it with the understanding it's a national dress and not cosplay. There's a lot of flexibility in what you wear it with etc whether it's formal or not. There are some things which are just aren't right though and others that are pretty disrespectful, wearing a tartan isn't one of those though.
