KF2 crashes on startup, and somehow takes Steam with it

I decided to download the game again after not having played it for a few years. But when I tried to start it, it comes up, all the developers and whatnot comes up, it comes to where the main menu should be... And it's suddenly my desktop in 800x600, with the main menu music playing. And when I close it, steam then crashes as well.

I've googled about, tried verifying the files, deleted the config folder, fiddled a bit with .ini files, launch in windowed mode, launch with steam in offline mode... Nothing changes.
