I long short of my situation is this; in 2019 I caught a necrotizing fasciitis from a trip to the Atlantic Ocean that took two of my toes ony left foot, made a nasty wound that took three bovine fetal skin grafts to close and two cycles of antibiotics via IV PICC line. The result of the infection and subsequent treatment killed my kidney function (17GFR) . While I was down my PCP upped my metformin dosage (type 2 diabetes) to combat increased glucose from inactivity. I was taking the maximum dosage of 1000 mg (500mg/2Xs daily) since 2021. Recently my nephrologist took me off of diabetic meds altogether and my glucose levels have actually improved compared to when I was on the meds...I would say on the metformin my average fasting BS was 135-140 while this prior ten days off metformin my fasting levels have been closer to 105-110. I have not lost weight(235lbs at 5'8") and have not made any drastic changes to diet or activity; is it possible that the metformin was actually working detrimentally ?
