I thought K -Holes were to be avoided?

Relative newcomer to K and have always done pretty small lines. I see people in this sub seeking k-holes and I actually thought that was something to be avoided, but it sounds like the goal for some folks. I think I have come close. I have definitely had moments where I lost touch with my location/time, but briefly. I thought I was at a grocery store at one instance. Can someone explain what a k-hole really is and why you would seek it?
