I went to view a house in Rainham today and after falling completely in love with it I'm considering putting an offer in but before I do I'm wondering if anyone has any insights on the area. Is it safe (especially for a single female)? A nice place to live?
I'm a first time buyer living in Bexley. Whilst I've been predominantly looking in this area obviously by moving further into Kent I can get more for my money (my budget would get me a 1 or 2 bedroom flat I Bexley whereas in Rainham for example I could get a nice 2 bedroom house).
I also don't have a car at present but the house is within walking distance of the station and a large supermarket. Would not having a car in the area be a problem? I'd look to get one eventually but I'd likely be putting most of my spare cash into the house and furniture initially as opposed to saving for a car
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Thank you all so much for your replies. It's really helpful and given me something to think about. I should have added that my ex's brother used to live in Gillingham near the High Street and it seemed pretty bleak so it's nice to know that Rainham is a nicer area. I will definitely consider the comments regarding the car situation.
