Hi all. We have a wine tour near Kelowna booked this weekend. However, we read that the Minister of Public Safety has asked people not to travel to “fire-affected areas”. Is that an area with an active fire/evacuation orders, or would it include Kelowna itself? We’ve also heard that by retaining our hotel booking, we’ll be depriving evacuees of accommodation, which we don’t want.
On the other hand, in another thread here we read comments debating whether the OP had been obligated to cancel their wine tour, saying that downtown Kelowna is basically fine.
For more context, the hotel will not refund us (and nor of course the winery). But we are more interested in how it feels to be (and breathe!) in Kelowna right now and whether it would be ethical or not to keep our hotel booking.
We’d like to hear your take; we realize that the answer might be obvious to people in Kelowna, but it’s less clear to us as outsiders and we’re here to listen.
Thanks very much.
