Intermediate (non-novice) user here

My plasma-desktop has been void of icons for months now. I've gone through multiple DE apt removes and purges and it's not getting fixed. Currently on a (heavily screwed; read: tinkered with) installation of Kubuntu 21.04, but I am pretty sure I've upgraded from 20.10 while it was happening.

I've tried deleting icon caches, installing new themes, reverting to breeze, you name it, to no avail. I think one thing that has changed after I used another DE for a few months and came back was icons coming back to dolphin and systemsettings, rn it's only the plasma-shell the doesn't have them.

Does anybody have any ideas for troubleshooting or things to try? These things I tried were many months back so my memory is foggy, I'm willing to retry suggestions.
