The purpose of this post is to serve as an FAQ for newcomers looking to try the game and/or learn more about the community.

Gameplay/Story FAQs

Question: Is Katawa Shoujo a hentai game?

Answer: While Katawa Shoujo is a Visual Novel that depicts sexual acts, the game depicts these acts for emotional reasons rather than pornographic ones. Given authorial intent, I would say no, Katawa Shoujo is not a hentai game.

Question: Are there any other trigger warnings I should be aware of before playing Katawa Shoujo?

Answer: While the game doesn't have any depictions of violent content, Katawa Shoujo covers topics such as death, survivor's guilt, and depression.

Installing the Game

Question: Chrome/Firefox/Safari is telling me that katawa-shoujo.com isn't safe! Has it been hacked?

Answer: This is a common issue newcomers may see when they first discover the game. When entering the website, make sure that the link in your browser begins with HTTP, not HTTPS. Rest assured, the site hasn't been hacked or otherwise compromised.

Question: I'm having issues installing the game, halp!

Answer: Like many games of its era, Katawa Shoujo requires administrator access on your computer to install. Please only use installers downloaded from trusted sources (ie: katawa-shoujo.com)

Question: Does Katawa Shoujo run on Linux/Mac OS/Etc

Answer: Due to the engine the game was written in (Ren'Py), Katawa Shoujo can run on most Mac/Linux/Windows machines.

4LS and Katawa Shoujo FAQ

Question: Where is 4LS now?

Answer: Over the years the members of 4 Leaf Studio have gone their separate ways to develop their own projects. Currently, Suriko has been developing VNs like First Snow with Studio Elan, while CplCrud released the second chapter of Historia earlier this year.

Mike Inel, one of the main animators/artists, is still active and producing kickass content on Youtube, so please give him some love there!

Please note that I'm still checking on the other writers/artists, so please note this list may be updated!

Question: Will there be a Katawa Shoujo 2?

Answer: Due to the nature of Katawa Shoujo's development and the stories told by the game, it is highly unlikely that there will be an official sequel.

Question: Can I make Katawa Shoujo 2?

Answer: Unfortunately, this question has been asked many times over the years, and the answer is always "No."

That said, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from making your own VN, novel, or comic about disabled people! The problem only comes when you try to pass off your work as an official continuation of Katawa Shoujo.

Question: Nurse, are you a part of 4LS?

Answer: No, I'm just a disabled girl that likes other disabled girls. I've spoken with a few members in the past, however I have no affiliation with 4LS. While I have been working on my own VN about disabled women, development is on hold due to medical issues.

Question: Is there a Discord server?

Answer: Yes! You can join the Yamaku Academy discord here! It's a fairly chill and tight-knit group, and we would love to see you there!

Question: How can I keep up with the game's creators?

Answer: The official website lists most of the 4LS team members social media here.
