Why the Perpetual Sirens-a-blaring in Midtown?

Post Body

I'm newish to KCMO and even newer to Midtown; I'm just North of the Nelson in Southmoreland. I know there's crime here but I cannot imagine there's enough to hear what often feels like nonstop sirens. I don't think there's a police or fire station very close to me and it sounds like there are multiple sirens going, which means a good deal of the activity can't be explained away by the proximity to Saint Luke's ER. What am I missing?

Editing to add that I'm asking out of sincere curiosity. I'm not bitching. If I wanted to be free of city noises I'd have moved to Olathe or something. Midtown feels more like home to me.

Comments

I don't understand why they need to put their sirens on when the streets are literally empty
