Like a moth to light, you're attracted to the vixen
You admire its beauty and long for a touch
For its fur is soft, and the warmth you share
Makes you feel at ease, and the world easy to bear.
It is quite the rare sight
The warmth of its soul acting as the light
That shines on the darkness of your heart,
Guiding you through your pain
A cruel world you're trying to escape
A kindness you didn't expect
Making you question if it's wrong
To let someone alone with these wolves
So, naturally, you want to take the vixen with you
But the vixen won't move or abandon its post
For moving means leaving a home
Of which only a memory would remain
Confused, you ask why stay so close to danger.
To which it responds without anger:
"I've been here most of my life
Don't you see? The pain in my eye?"
Puzzled, you wonder
"Why leave one home, but not another?"
To which it replies: "I've been alone for a bit
I enjoy it, sorry for the trick..."
Heartbroken, you run away
Shouting how you never want to see it again
The light fades away, for hatred is awake
So you run, hating the times you had.
It's only when you're tired that you realized
"I just stopped here, and called it a night
Is this what it felt? Abandoned and played?"
Startled, you dahs back with all your might
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to leave your side
If you'll allow me, I'll stay
For alone peace is found
But only together will we enjoy how it is profound"
Surprised by your discovery,
And enjoying your company,
It offers you the same space
For you to lie down and gaze
You find yourself a new man
For you finally understand
That running away isn't your purpose
But sharing yourself with another
Only together can you appreciate
The life you live, away like a stray
Away from the wolves that treat you like prey
Close to the beautiful who you want to protect
