Jump Rope Log, Days 1 and 2!
Post Body

Hi everyone! If this gets annoying please tell me to stop but I figured it would be good to keep me accountable, and maybe if there are other beginners we can chat in the comments!

Today is my second day of jump roping and there is more to it than I could have possibly imagined. Yesterday I did a guided workout that was 45 seconds jump roping, 15 seconds off, with some body weight training in between. I felt like I was dying but I finished and decided to try some basic tricks like crossing over and one footed jumps. I didn’t realize how many different kinds of steps there were until afterwards! I am having a lot of trouble skipping the rope or doing one foot on my left because of shin splits left over from a half marathon.

Day two: I just told myself at least ten minutes of trying to jump rope however I could and taking rests when I felt like I needed them. I watched a few videos yesterday on both basic form and tricks (I decided to focus on the boxer step). With my form corrected to some extent I had a little bit better stamina but not perfect, still can’t make an entire 45 second interval. I was also more sore today than I was from running my half marathon. After that ten minutes, give or take, I started to try some tricks. I worked through the boxer step a little bit but I could not do it, even with floor drills without the rope. I kept doing skiiers by accident. Not wanting frustrate myself, I switched over to a simple combination, moving the rope outside my legs left, right, then crossover and jump through (I have no idea if there’s a name for that). It took me a little while but I was able to get it! After I had done it three or four times successfully I tried to work on some one foot steps with the foot out instead of up at my knee but my left leg was not up for it today.

Overall I’m pretty happy with how quickly I was able to get some tricks down. That prevents me from getting bored which I love. I feel like I’m unlocking levels in a video game. I find all the different steps a little harder than different motion with the rope, but hey it’s day two! I also don’t have great rhythm yet, which I think will improve at my form improves. Today is also my first day where I will be doing a training run on top of this workout, so I’m excited to see how that goes and how I feel afterwards.
